In recent surveys QUT students have requested more academic staff add readings to the CMD. To access the CMD go to the QUT Library homepage, and in the Quicklinks section select CMD. The CMD main menu is also available under Learning Resources from your QUT Blackboard unit site. Use Self Activation of Multiple Items or alternatively use Self Activation of a Single Item to ensure they are available for Semester 2 2009. Further instructions on how to use the CMD are available at: http://www.library.qut.edu.au/services/teaching/cmd_for_staff.jsp

New Plagiarism Tools

June 22, 2009 · Leave a Comment

This is a new plagiarism tutorial created by the Vaughan Memorial Library in Acadia in the US. This is being used to teach university students about the importance of referencing. If you think your students may benefit from using it you may link this to blackboard under their copyright conditions. Acadia librarians use these modules to teach basic research skills to students and to supplement one-on-one and in-class information literacy instruction.

Also, you or your students might find this plagiarism tracker tool useful. You simply paste in the text you feel may not be copied (or not sourced correctly), and the advanced option offers a timeline of current and past possibilities for copied text. Plus there’s a list of possible links from which the text may have been copied.

Database evaluation feedback request

June 15, 2009 · Leave a Comment

I am currently seeking feedback about the Osiris, Mint Global and IBIS World databases. Can you please provide me with some feedback by emailing me at robyn.edmanson@qut.edu.au or phone 3138 2167. So, do you use Osiris, Mint Global or IBIS World reports databases? If you do, can you let me know how it fills your needs? The library needs justification to keep these databases, so if you have any comments at all please let me know.

Plus the Research Librarian, Janet Baker, will show you how to deposit your research into QUT’s e-prints open access repository (so please bring any journal article, etc) if you wish.

Please RSVP by Tuesday 16 June to robyn.edmanson@qut.edu.au or your liaison librarian.
