New Integrated Literacy Program Combining TALSS and Library

February 28, 2009 · Leave a Comment

The library has been instrumental in establishing a seamless IL program for students this semester: new kickSTART studySMART program. What this means is students can now register for classes (both u/g and p/g)  from a single web point (either from the QUT home page or library page); former TALSS teachers are now located in the library; and classes are held within the library. Single united focus for all IL teaching programs can only ameliorate the chances of students getting lost in transition to QUT. This follows on from the hugely successful initiative to establish and operate a combined help desk: library staff (whether reference or circulation) are now situated with PAs (peer advisors…these staff remain the best and brightest QUT students). Feedback most welcome.

Please allow me a brief introduction: My name is Robyn Edmanson, I’m an ex-journo for various Publications (Business Review Weekly is most notable) – property pages mostly. Spent 7 years in SE Asia freelancing (Asia Today, Australian Property News, B&T Marketing magazine) and making TV commercials with husband. Brisbane beckoned when student riots forced us home May 1998. Delighted to be stepping into Janet’s mighty shoes for 6 months.

New on Trial – Research Starters- Business

February 20, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Research Starters are study and research guides designed specifically for advanced high school students, college students and selected graduate students. They consist of comprehensive, yet concise topic summary articles of about 3,000 words in length written by researchers, scholars and other subject matter experts. Topics parallel course offerings at major colleges and universities in the subject areas covered. These articles are designed to be starting points for students, providing them with topic overviews, definitions of relevant terms and concepts, detailed bibliographies, and importantly, links to top articles from the relevant EP database(s). Research Starters supplements textbooks and other materials with current and focused topic overviews, assisting students in undertaking their assignments and research successfully
