Easy to use ERA journal search tool

June 30, 2008 · 1 Comment

John Lamp at Deakin University has developed a very handy ERA journal search tool.  It is a web based interface that allows you to quickly search the ERA journal list for journals by field of research or full or partial journal name. It is available at http://lamp.infosys.deakin.edu.au/era/

It is an easier option than the spreadsheets provided by the ARC.

Directory of Open Access Journals

This is a directory of scholarly journals that are peer reviewed and freely available on the web.  A good resource to keep an eye on particularly as this is a growing trend for researchers especially in the humanities.  This is also an alternative outlet for research publication.  http://www.doaj.org/

Capacity Building for Research – Library Workshop

June 19, 2008 · Leave a Comment

“Bibliometrics drive research funding” !!  Potentially at least… Time for a current awareness update.    Come to a library session on  journal citation analysis.  Take a look at the bibliometric tools that are used to analyse the value & impact of particular publications.  This information can support your decision about which journal to target for publication, how to improve the impact of your own work through open access publication and how to keep tabs on your own citation count, H-Index , and to scan the research activity in any field .

June 27th 10:00 – 12:00 in Room V712 we will cover:

·     Thomson Reuters Products Web of Science (WoS), Journal Citations Reports ( New Interface for JCR)

·     Essential Science Indicators (ESI)/ScienceWatch;

·     SCImago (uses data from Scopus);

·     Harzing’s Publish or Perish (PoP)(uses data from Google Scholar);

·     Your impact through QUT eprints + Open Access Publishing

Let me know if you want to attend as the training room seats 10 and there will be some search activities of these resources.  Contact me on j2.baker@qut.edu.au
